La Riva: Along The 𝄐
Graphic Scores, Installation, Performance, Recordings.

La Riva: Along The 𝄐 is a synesthetic installation of visual art and musical scores; the fruit of a research on the relational ecology of plants that grow along the banks of The Arno River. Drawing by hand the signs emerging from the spaces left by the Common Reed, the Ribwort Plantain, and the Pondweed found along the Arno's banks, Stromberg graphically transposed the empty spaces resulting from their growth structures, how they swayed in the wind, or their movements in water. This led to a series of musical scores performed by Renato Grieco (double bass), Francesco Pellegrino (saxophone and clarinet), and Francesco Toninelli (percussion and vibraphone). These scores are neither classic compositions, nor pure improvisations; these scores and their refined translation into sound are a homage to the transitory nature of vegetation growing along the river Arno while highlighting the human-plant interaction as musical potential.
